In July 2017 MIMOS welcomed Ahmad Rizan Ibrahim as new President and CEO, replacing Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah who retired after leading MIMOS for a good 11 years. Before joining MIMOS, Rizan had served as the head of government and government-linked companies for analytics software giant, SAS Institute.
Rizan has nearly 30 years of multi-disciplinary experience in management and strategic consulting, including more than 20 years in senior leadership, operational roles, sales, marketing, business development as well as channel and alliance development.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Science in Management Science, a Master of Computer Science and an MBA from Oregon State University, USA.
Besides having a proven track record in evaluating, managing and driving technology-related investments and corporations, Rizan is an expert in solution delivery to clients in the areas of ICT strategic planning, operations management, e-business and project management; serving both public and private sectors, locally and overseas.
In an email to MIMOSians marking his 10th week at MIMOS, Rizan said that he wouldn’t have accepted the offer if he did not think he could make a difference at MIMOS. While the MIMOS community regarded the leadership change as historic, Rizan self-effacingly noted that “we are just passing by another milestone in our journey, where we sometimes need to look back and take stock before moving forward again”.
Parties expecting to see major organisational and corporate cultural change occurring after the new CEO’s entrance were left reassured that it was not necessarily be the case. “Sometimes big changes are unnecessary, especially if we are already doing the right things in the right way.
“But sometimes it’s also good to pause and ask ourselves again what we want to achieve. We should also be quick in identifying opportunities when they present,” he asserted.
