  • The work done at MIMOS Information Security Laboratory seeks to build engineering solutions to protect Malaysia’s interests in cyberspace and to make it possible for Malaysian individuals, corporations and governmental agencies to safeguard critical information, computing environments and infrastructure elements.  Our R&D activities are aimed at developing homegrown technology in cybersecurity and enable sovereign measures without undue reliance on imported frameworks and solutions.

    MIMOS currently offer operational solutions in population-scale digital identification, single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, adaptive authentication, digital signatures and privacy protection. Our ongoing works include cyber-physical and secure hardware systems, and also expanding privacy protection to population-wide use cases.

    These technologies are currently being deployed at government and private sectors, including organisations in the areas of security, administration, healthcare, finance and education.  We also collaborate with local and international research institutions, as well as with organisations focused on various business cases.

  • Big data analytics is related to advanced data analytic technologies and techniques which examines large volumes of data to uncover meaningful patterns, trends and other insights. Big data normally associated with data that has one or more characteristics like volume, variety, velocity, veracity and value. By having these characteristics, big data has enormous impact to organisations whereby it enables data analysts or researchers to harness information in order to help the organisation make faster and better decisions making.

    In order to take advantage of big data, an initiative from a three-party Memorandum of Understanding in January 2015, between MIMOS, Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDeC) has established Big Data Analytics Digital Government Lab at MIMOS to expedite the implementation of big data analytics in the Government sector. This lab enables big data analytics based on data from various Government ministries and agencies as well as the social media. Among advanced data analytic technologies and techniques used within this lab are Data Harvesting (Mi-Clip), Data Cleansing (Mi-Morphe), Data Harmonisation (Mi-Harmony), Data Anonymisation (Mi-Scramble), Data Security and Protection (Mi-UAP, Mi-ARMC, Mi-Trust), Data Acceleration (Mi-Acclib,Mi-Galactica), Data Analytics and Data Visualisation (Mi-BIS, Mi-Flash, Mi-HELIO, Mi-Intelligence, Mi-IRMS, Mi-Visualitics).

  • MIMOS Artificial Intelligence (AI) R&D focuses on developing high-performance Intelligent Big Data Analytics (BDA) software for deriving insights from the exponential growth of unstructured data (e.g. news, social media, blogs, forums, images, videos, sensor data) and structured data (e.g. databases, systems). This is achieved by applying AI-based Data and Knowledge Analytics technologies, including Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Semantic Technology, Graph Analytics, Natural Language Processing, Analytic Modelling, and Neural Networks.

    With the acceleration in digitalisation, the need for AI in Intelligent BDA across all industries is critical for enterprises to gain a competitive edge and to ensure business continuity. A myriad of digital solutions include social media sentiment analysis, social network intelligence, manufacturing environment monitoring, vehicle licence plate recognition, versatile video surveillance, and blood pressure and composition analysis. Potential industries include agriculture, finance, healthcare, biodiversity, logistics, education, manufacturing, government, legal and many more.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) is an imperative concept resultant from market and technology megatrends.  The implications of these two factors force global society to implement new solutions in order to enhance operational efficiencies and productivity, and optimise resources while enhancing customised individual solutions.

    As part of the action plans to drive the National IoT Strategic Roadmap, which was launched by the MOSTI in 2015, MIMOS is to serve in creating a national IoT industry ecosystem that will enable the proliferation of use and industrialisation of IoT as a new source of economic growth. MIMOS has developed several IoT-based solutions for various sectors including agriculture, environment and smart city, just to name a few.

    MIMOS currently works in strengthening technopreneur capabilities and catalysing an IoT development hub, among others, by facilitating R&D of IoT applications and services.

  • Microelectronics has been at the core of MIMOS’ R&D since the organisation’s inception. Today, the functions of MIMOS Microelectronics Cluster are divided into three inter-related areas; Integrated Circuit (IC) Design & Microsystems, Next Generation Nano Electronics & Materials and Wafer Fabrication Technology.

    1. IC Design & Microsystems focuses on the R&D in Edge-Artificial Intelligent IC, heterogeneous integrated circuits for precision electronics, secured applications, IoT systems for various applications such as healthcare and lifestyle; industrial energy management; national security and smart city. We also emphasise on the basic needs in the IoT world, communication technologies and connecting the unconnected. On top of that, we provide custom-made chip design, electronic system and prototyping services as well as other IC and electronic device design and development projects to the industry.
    2. MIMOS’ Next Generation Nano Electronics & Materials focuses on two major areas: Next Generation Power Electronics Semiconductor Technology and Flexible Electronics Technology. Next Generation Power Electronics Semiconductor Technology stresses on work in lateral and vertical high-voltage semiconductor process technologies: gallium nitride (GaN) on silicon (GaN-on-Si) and GaN on GaN process technologies for high-voltage power devices. Flexible Electronics Technology works on new materials to meet the needs of printed flexible electronics industry which include flexible electronics substrate and printed yarn/fabrics. This is also to realise the near-future IoT needs.
    3. Wafer Fabrication Technology provides a wide range of services to the industries and universities including Failure Analysis Services and Wafer Testing and Semiconductor Training.
