WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT
Information security is absolutely pivotal for the development of advanced information-communication network society, and for the safe utilisation of IT.
Cyberspace provides a complex digital network that is ever-expanding, linking various aspects of life. While cyberspace serves as a fertile soil for growth in efficiency, productivity, business and communications, it is prone to the infestation of digital threats. The same infrastructure we exchange information on is a verdant platform for the execution of malicious intent, whereby ICT is exploited and its elements abused for the interest of insidious parties. As such, it is imperative that countries protect their digital environment from being defaced or infiltrated by sinister forces.
This can be achieved by developing our own indigenous technology in cyber security to bolster self-reliance in order to maintain its e-sovereignty. With its e-sovereignty intact, the identity of the country in aspects surrounding its culture, values and politics can be upheld while the security of the national information infrastructure will be well protected.
WHY THE NEEDS FOR ‘ADVANCED INFORMATION SECURITY’
Increase in damages caused by computer virus attacks and information leaks are posing serious threats among the IT society that could result in serious financial and non-financial impacts and crises to a country, a company, an organisation or even to an individual user.
On top of that, it complements the efforts of the government to further promote “e-commerce” industry and usage of Internet through safer and more secured Internet environment.
