Unlocking opportunities in challenging times

2020 has indeed been a challenging year for everyone as nobody expected an infectious disease could radically change our lives, impacting tremendously on the global economy and societal wellbeing.

The Covid-19 pandemic has served as a wake-up call for many business sectors in terms of how they can stay resilient during these trying times.

Looking on the bright side, the health crisis has somehow paved the way for digital transformation as companies change their operations to cope with the new normal.

Subscribing to the adage that “with every challenge, there are opportunities”, MIMOS puts a greater focus on supporting key industries through the employment of new technologies.

We continued to work closely with the Government and industry players in developing digital solutions, building a technology hub and promoting the adoption of advanced technologies among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to boost socio-economic growth.

Since the world was hit by Covid-19, webinars and virtual talks have become a popular method for companies to reach out to their audiences, and MIMOS is no exception.

The fourth quarter of the year saw MIMOS actively interacting with the public through online talk series and webinars to keep them updated on its research and development (R&D) activities, and to demonstrate technical prowess at addressing real-world business challenges.

Among the topics covered include Industry 4.0 technologies, photonics in medical devices, evolution of industrial design development and technologies for the rubber industry. The virtual talks, which were streamed live on MIMOS’ official YouTube channel, received positive responses from both local and international viewers.

To ensure continuity of service and productivity while safeguarding the safety and health of our employees, MIMOS has taken precautionary measures which include strictly observing the standard operating procedures as well as implementing alternative working arrangements. From conducting online meetings, webinars to working from home, MIMOS strived to keep Covid-19 at bay.

Despite the pandemic challenges, 2020 was a historic and rewarding year for MIMOS as it recorded a series of significant events – from the repositioning of the agency to MOSTI after a one-year stint under MITI; welcoming the new faces of leadership, to scoring prestigious awards. MIMOS is proud to have won the Good Design Award 2019 through MIMOS Off-Grid Communication (Mi-OGC), and IDC DX Awards (Information Visionary) 2020 through its technological contributions to the Health Ministry’s Malaysian Health Data Warehouse (MyHDW).

These milestones would have not been possible without the endless supports and contributions from MOSTI, relevant ministries, our partners, stakeholders and staff.

As we bid farewell to 2020, let’s reflect and envision by looking forward with greater hope and achievement in 2021. Stay safe and healthy!
