MIMOS fortified Malaysia’s position at the forefront of the next technological frontier by hosting the Institute of Microengineering and Nanoelectronics (IMEN) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This strategic engagement, led by the MIMOS Quantum Intelligence Centre (QIC) on 13 January 2026, focused on the pivotal role of quantum engineering in supporting the nation’s digital sovereignty. Bridging the gap between advanced academic research and applied engineering signalled that both institutions intend to build a robust and competitive ecosystem that ensures Malaysia remains a key player in the global quantum race.
Since its inception in February 2025, the QIC has served as a sophisticated national platform designed to weave quantum artificial intelligence, communications, sensing, and computing into a single, coherent framework. The collaboration with IMEN-UKM is specifically tailored to identify the engineering pathways required to turn these complex domains into reality. This partnership highlighted the essential synergy between national R&D and academia, focusing on creating sustainable infrastructure that can support future-ready capabilities across various industries, from secure communications to high-performance computing.
As the nation’s premier applied R&D centre, MIMOS is dedicated to accelerating the transition of theoretical quantum research into tangible, deployable technologies. Fostering these high-level cross-institutional alliances ensures that Malaysia’s quantum journey is built on a foundation of local expertise and strategic innovation. This ongoing commitment to working with academic leaders like UKM not only strengthens the domestic talent pipeline but also ensures that the resulting breakthroughs deliver lasting economic and social impact for the country.
