Senior Engineer

Job Purpose

The Senior Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining Software Engineering (SE) tools and supporting server infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient development environments. The role is responsible for tool administration, system integration, server management, user support, and technical guidance to enable seamless software development and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Software Engineering Tool Administration:

• Install, configure, and maintain SE tools such as Subversion, JIRA, SonarQube, Git, Jenkins, and other related platforms.
• Perform user and system administration, including role-based access control and user provisioning.
• Customize and integrate SE tools to align with development workflows and organizational needs.
• Provide support, training, and troubleshooting for development teams.
• Ensure regular backups, updates, and patching of tool environments.
• Maintain documentation for configuration, integration, and administrative procedures.
• Support SE tool usage for both internal and external projects, including coordination with off-site teams (e.g., MOF and MAMPU).

Server Administration:

• Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers to support SE tools and development environments.
• Monitor server performance, storage, and resource usage to ensure optimal uptime and responsiveness.
• Manage server-level security, including firewalls, user authentication, and access control.
• Perform routine maintenance, software updates, and patch management.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to servers and hosting environments.
• Ensure disaster recovery and backup procedures are in place and tested regularly.

Qualification

• Possess Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or any other related academic background.

Professional Qualification

• SVN Administrator Certification (or proven hands-on experience in administering Subversion repositories)
• Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
• Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator
• Certified Jenkins Engineer (CJE)
• Atlassian Certified (JIRA/Confluence Administration)
• ITIL Foundation Certification

Work Experience

• 3–5 years of experience administering SE tools, particularly in managing Subversion (SVN) environments including repository setup, branching strategies, backup, user access control, and integration with other tools.
• Experience with other SE tools such as JIRA, SonarQube, Git, Jenkins, and related platforms.
• Proven experience in server administration (physical and virtual environments).
• Familiarity with configuration management best practices.
• Experience with conducting technology proof of concepts.

Technical Skills

• In-depth experience with Subversion (SVN): repository creation, migration, hook scripting, permission management, and backup strategies.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of SE tools such as JIRA, SonarQube, Git, Jenkins, and related platforms.
• Proficiency in installing, configuring, and maintaining physical and virtual servers (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM).
• Solid understanding of Linux/Unix and Windows Server environments.
• Scripting skills (e.g., Shell, Bash, Python) for automation and tool integration.
• Familiarity with networking, user authentication, and system security.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
• Good communication and team collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
• Attention to detail with a focus on system reliability and uptime.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of independent problem-solving.
