Innovation Hub for the Northern Region

MIMOS and Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in completing the Industry 4.0 value chain and support the industry needs in Penang and the Northern Region.  The MoU documents were exchanged between PSDC CEO Muhamed Ali Hajah and MIMOS CEO Ahmad Rizan Ibrahim on 25 April 2018.

Under the MoU, MIMOS offers its technologies, capacities, expertise and ecosystems in information and communications technologies (ICT), Semiconductor, Microelectronics and Embedded Systems to support training programmes offered by PSDC.

MIMOS will also form an Augmented Reality – Virtual Reality, and Internet of Things (IoT) laboratories to complement the existing facilities at PSDC.

An Innovation Hub was also launched to provide high-technology industry training that will support and speed up the Industry 4.0 adoption. The hub will cover Nanotechnologies, Photonics and Wireless Communications in addition to training facilities in emerging technologies such as Big Data Analytics, Edge Computing, Artificial Intelligence, 3D-Printing and Smart Manufacturing.

“The hub is expected to boost the existing skills of local talent, as well as enroll and nurture new batches of talent.  It will not only bring Industry 4.0 technologies and talent to Malaysian industries but also to multinational companies having operations here,” Ahmad Rizan said.

For PSDC, it was gratifying to join forces with MIMOS once again in supporting and improving the uptake of new technologies adopted by companies through the provision of proper training and shared services.
