The need for Malaysia’s security forces to be up to date on the latest innovations in information and communications technology (ICT) remains critical. This is vital to counter and protect the nation against the growing uncertainties of cybersecurity threats around the world.
To further reinforce its ICT capabilities, the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and MIMOS had once again formed a partnership to review and enhance the Navy’s ICT aspects.
A five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), lasting until October 29, 2026, was signed by both parties on October 30, 2021.
The MoU was officially formalised on February 8 following RMN delegation visit to MIMOS led by Malaysian Chief of Navy, Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Reza Mohd Sany. The MoU document was exchanged between Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Reza and MIMOS President and CEO, Dr Iskandar Samad.
Navy Digital Management System
Among the activities and cooperation discussed between RMN and MIMOS were the technical advisory services for the development of RMN’s overall digital management system (RMN-ILIS), training and technology system for TLDMnet, and proof-of-concept for TLDM’s ICT development. In addition, MIMOS will also provide technical assistance for the development of RMN’s future information system known as RMN-IRIS.
Following the MoU, MIMOS paid a visit to the RMN Lumut Naval Base on March 15 and 16. MIMOS delegation, led by Dr Iskandar Samad, visited some of RMN’s assets and facilities such as KD Jebat, Western Fleet Maintenance Depot and Western Fleet Supply Depot, both of which are equipped with Automated Storage Retrieval System.
