MIMOS BOD Dr Azman bin Hussin Translates Quantum Physics for Digital Leadership

MIMOS hosted a highly insightful session, ‘Quantum Thinking for You and Me,’ delivered by MIMOS’ Board of Director, Dr Azman bin Hussin, on 3 December 2025. The talk brilliantly leveraged the complex principles of Quantum Physics, like Superposition, Entanglement, and Tunnelling, and translated them into actionable metaphors for leadership and digital strategy. Dr Hussin challenged attendees to adopt a ‘Both/And’ mindset, emphasising the ability to hold conflicting ideas simultaneously, much like a quantum qubit can be both 0 and 1 at once. This approach is essential for navigating modern business complexity and bypassing traditional bureaucratic ‘roadblocks’ through strategic thinking.

The session provided practical principles for becoming a ‘Quantum Leader,’ focusing on managing chaos and embracing the inherent uncertainty of the digital age. Dr Azman introduced key habits, such as the Superposition Habit, which encourages designing systems where two seemingly contradictory outcomes can both be true, and the Entanglement Habit, which requires leaders to foresee ripple effects three layers deep before making a decision.

He positioned the world as volatile and called for a mindset shift from being a ‘mechanic trying to fix the Newtonian clock’ to being a ‘Jazz Musician’ who plays the music of potential, listening to complexity and flow.

Dr Azman connected these quantum concepts back to Malaysia’s own cultural DNA. He highlighted the ‘Durian Paradox’ (loving a fruit that is both ‘Heaven’ and ‘Hell’) and the tradition of the ‘Open House’ as evidence that Malaysians possess an innate adaptability and a ‘home-court advantage’ in dealing with complexity.

He concluded by asserting that the technology of the future, including Generative AI and Quantum Computing, is inherently probabilistic and quantum. This presents a generational opportunity for MIMOS to lead, provided the organisation successfully pairs its technological expertise (AI & QC) with this indigenous, adaptive and resilient culture.
