MIMOS Drives Global Technological Diplomacy and Local Innovation Excellence

MIMOS has solidified its position as a central pillar of Malaysia’s technological diplomacy by hosting an extraordinary series of high-level engagements with global and domestic leaders. From deep-dive walkthroughs of the MIMOS Junior Academy (MJA) and AI Lab for MOSTI and Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA) representatives, to pivotal discussions with the China-ASEAN Technology Transfer Centre (CATTC) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the organisation is actively weaving a web of international cooperation. These sessions have not only showcased Malaysia’s cutting-edge R&D capabilities but have also opened new frontiers for joint technology development, spanning from the tech hubs of Shanghai to the digital transport ministries of Azerbaijan.

The diversity of these recent visitors emphasised the far-reaching impact of MIMOS’ work across multiple industries. The agency has engaged in strategic dialogues with the Royal Malaysian Navy and Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) Bukit Aman to explore defence and security applications, while simultaneously partnering with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to drive biomedical solutions. This cross-pollination extended to corporate giants like Khazanah Nasional and Japan’s NEC IT Solutions, as well as educational tours for regional and local institutions such as Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna, Philippines, Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), and Asia Pacific University (APU). A particularly distinguished visit from Professor Andrey Bezrukov, President of the Association for the Export of Technological Sovereignty, further highlighted MIMOS’ role in defining the architectural framework for global competitiveness and technological sovereignty.

Complementing this high-level diplomacy is a strong commitment to nurturing future talent, exemplified by the recent visit of UniKL Business School students. Enrolled in the Innovation Management course, six students engaged in an industry exposure programme to witness first-hand how MIMOS operates as the first organisation in Malaysia to achieve ISO 56001 Innovation Management System certification. Studying MIMOS’ structured approach to AI, IoT, and cybersecurity, the students gained valuable insights into the systematic translation of research into market-ready solutions. These engagements ensure that while MIMOS remains at the forefront of the global stage, it continues to serve as a practical classroom for the nation’s next generation of innovation leaders.
