In response to growing global and local pressure to protect minors online, My Blockchain Infrastructure Sdn Bhd (MyBISB) endorsed a privacy-centric age-verification solution powered by the Zetrix platform on 6 January 2026. This initiative is aligned with Malaysia’s new regulatory landscape, including a government sandbox launched in early 2026, enforcing a minimum age threshold of 16 for social media usage. The goal was to provide platform operators with a reliable way to verify users’ ages while addressing public concerns regarding excessive data collection and personal privacy risks.
The solution simplified the verification process by allowing users to confirm their identity once through official sources such as MyDigital ID or the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe). Once verified, users receive a secure digital proof, such as a ‘16 and above’ confirmation, which can be presented to social media platforms. This method will ensure that services can grant access without ever seeing or storing sensitive information like full names, addresses, or biometric data, significantly reducing the potential impact of data breaches.
Designed for scalability and regulatory compliance, the system prioritises data minimisation by deleting raw electronic know-your-customer (eKYC) materials on a strict schedule. While it protects user anonymity during routine use, it includes governed channels to support legal processes when required by law. MBI and Zetrix AI have invited social media and messaging providers to begin pilot programmes and integration discussions to prepare for these upcoming mandatory safety standards.
