Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday (May 22, 2012) – Data and broadband service provider, REDtone Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (REDtone) and the leader in ICT innovations, MIMOS Bhd (MIMOS) are teaming up in a win-win partnership where both are leveraging on each other’s strength to achieve their business goals.
Both parties signed an MoU agreement today that will see REDtone becoming a MIMOS technology recipient with usage rights for the latter’s WiWi and Intelligence Surveillance Platform (ISP) technologies for three years.
The agreement was sealed in the presence of Dato’ Seri Haji Ahmad Husni bin Hanadzlah, Finance Minister II and will enable REDtone to raise its competitive advantage up a notch through the strengthening of its technological capabilities and MIMOS to leverage on REDtone’s market requirements for future developments based on real market needs.
This collaboration is also in line with the National Key Economic Areas (NKEA) initiative of connecting 1Malaysia.
Signing on behalf of REDtone was REDtone International Bhd’s (REDtone Int) managing director Dato’ Wei Chuan Beng and group chief executive officer Lau Bik Soon while MIMOS was represented by its president and chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah and chief operating officer Abd Aziz Abd Kadir. Also present was REDtone Int’s chairman Dato’ Ibrahim Che Mat and deputy chairman Datuk Wira Syed Ali Al-Habshee together with MIMOS’ chairman Dato’ Suriah Abdul Rahman.
According to REDtone Int’s Dato’ Wei, the company’s technological skills and solution offerings will be further sharpened via the collaboration which is its first business partnership with MIMOS.
“As a company that is respected for its in-house R & D initiatives, REDtone will be able to integrate the WiWi and ISP technologies into our current solutions portfolio and bring to the market what MIMOS has developed.
“This enhanced capability will help boost REDtone’s competitive edge and enable us to participate in different types of ICT projects that we were not able to do so previously. We can also bring the WiWi and ISP technologies to international markets when the opportunity arises,” Dato’ Wei said while adding that value added services at its WiFi hotspots can also be boosted via both technologies.
Given the flexibility of the MIMOS WiWi platform, a comprehensive solution can be offered from a simple hotspot. Considered a revenue stream-enabler, it will allow REDtone to contribute to Malaysia’s economic growth.
Meanwhile MIMOS president and chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Wahab said, “MIMOS continue to develop technologies and create value added services in ICT. This is in line with the government’s aspiration for Digital Malaysia initiatives; for the router substitution with local product in expanding Digital infrastructure for rural broadband access”.
“MIMOS technologies bring the benefits of broadband to the community, not just connectivity, but by way of other value added services and content applications as well. This leads to creation of alternative revenue stream either for the Internet Services Provider (ISP) or to the End User, toward a sustainable Broadband Internet access,” Wahab added.
Based on the MoU agreement, REDtone, leveraging on its strength as a WiFi infrastructure builder and service provider, will develop a Pilot site based on MIMOS’ WiWi and Intelligence Surveillance Platform (ISP) technologies. MIMOS is committed to provide the necessary technical support. This Pilot site shall be the reference site for REDtone on its plan for the WiFi hotspot expansion in coming years, as to create a value added services to the present solution.
The MIMOS WiWi relay solution offers extended coverage and subsequently allows new services to be created such as Wireless IPTV, Video Surveillance Services, localised advertising etc.
Meanwhile, the MIMOS WiWi Outdoor Access Point provides a complete range of product based on the modular design; from a simple WiFi hotspot till a more complex Metronet with WiFi MultiMesh or Point to Point solution.
As the nation’s largest WiFi network builder, REDtone has under its belt a total of 4,500 WiFi hotspots that are either already established, underway or about to be built by the end of this year. It offers end-to-end service encompassing designing, building, managing and maintaining these hotspots.
