Senior Engineer, Failure/Material Analysis

Job Purpose

• The position is to provide analytical equipment services to MIMOS R&D and diverse sectors such as Electrical & Electronics (E&E) and other industries, Universities, Research & Development (R&D) Institutes, and Government Agencies. The objective is to leverage advanced analytical tools to uncover the underlying causes of product failures, providing valuable insights for customers to enhance their design, processes, and technology. The responsibility includes supporting MIMOS in R&D activities and also revenue generation for the Failure Analysis and Material Analysis Lab through the operation of assigned equipment, to ensure the lab’s sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide analytical equipment services to MIMOS, industries and universities as a technical expert for at least 3 main and 6 sample preparation equipment.
• Provide technical expertise, guidance and recommendations for the assigned equipment to internal and external customers, which includes industries and academia
• Document findings, analysis processes, and recommendations in detailed technical reports.
• Conduct data compilation and analysis, transforming raw data into meaningful information.
• Generate high-quality FA reports for the customers under the supervision of the lab leader.
• Support customer inquiries and provide timely and accurate failure analysis reports as needed.
• Supervise technicians on the operation of the assigned equipment.
• Conduct improvements to the processes associated with the assigned equipment.
• Provide technical explanations during customer visits for the assigned equipment.
• Perform first-level equipment troubleshooting for the assigned equipment.
• Responsible for the maintenance of the assigned equipment. Ensure equipment PM as per schedule.
• Ensure compliance with 5S housekeeping requirements for assigned equipment.
• Assist the Lab leader in implementing and maintaining ISO9001 and ISO/IEC 17025 quality requirements for the assigned equipment.
• Participate in proficiency testing programs to assess the laboratory’s competence and performance, as required by ISO/IEC 17025 for the assigned equipment.
• Prepare work instructions or standard operating procedures for the assigned equipment.
• Participate in any quality issues and 8D responses for the assigned equipment
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying trends, patterns, and common failure modes across different products or systems.
• Stay updated with the latest industry standards, technologies, and best practices related to failure analysis techniques and methodologies.
• Conduct equipment training for the assigned equipment to internal and external customers, including industries and academia.
• Prepare equipment training courses for the assigned equipment for E&E, other industries, and academia.

Qualification

• Possess Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Science (Mechanical, Electrical, Materials), and any other related academic background.

Work Experience

• Minimum of 4 years of related working experience in Semiconductor, Failure Analysis, Material Science, and Nanotechnology.
• Good knowledge in failure analysis, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting.
• Good knowledge on semiconductor IC design, wafer fabrication and package assembly..
• Good knowledge in problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Qualified level in using analytical tools and software for data analysis and visualization.
• Good experience in using analytical equipment and tools is a plus.
• PhD candidates without relevant working experience can be considered.
