Provisioning Engineer / Senior/Staff Engineer

Position Purpose & Summary:

A Provisioning Engineer plays a crucial role in the telecommunications and network service industry. The job purpose involves facilitating the activation and provisioning of services for customers.

The overall goal of a Provisioning Engineer is to ensure a smooth and efficient process for delivering telecommunication and network services to customers while meeting quality standards and adhering to industry regulations.

The role is critical in providing a positive experience for customers and maintaining the integrity of the service delivery infrastructure.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Order Review:
Receive and review customer orders for new services, upgrades, or modifications to existing services.

Configuration Management:
Configure network devices, equipment, and software based on customer requirements and service specifications.

Service Activation:
Facilitate the activation of telecommunications and network services, ensuring that customer orders are processed accurately and in a timely manner.

Capacity Planning:
Collaborate with capacity planning teams to ensure that network resources are allocated efficiently to meet current and future demand.

Quality Assurance:
Conduct quality checks to ensure that provisioned services meet specified standards, performance criteria, and customer expectations.

Troubleshooting:
Address any issues or discrepancies that may arise during the provisioning process, collaborating with other teams such as technical support or network operations.

Adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs):
Ensure that provisioning activities adhere to agreed-upon SLAs, meeting deadlines and service delivery timelines.

Documentation:
Maintain accurate records and documentation of customer orders, configurations, and provisioning activities.

Academic Qualification:

  • Degree in Telecommunications
  • Network Engineering
  • Information Technology, or a related field
  • Relevant certifications may be accepted in lieu of a degree

Professional Qualification and/or Regulatory, Licensing requirements:

  • Relevant certifications in networking or telecommunications,
  • such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent

Technical Skills

Telecommunications Knowledge:
Understanding of telecommunications principles, services, and technologies.

Network Protocols:
Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and others.

Network Devices Configuration:
Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls.

Automated Provisioning Systems:
Familiarity with automated provisioning systems and tools to streamline service activation processes.

Quality Assurance Testing:
Ability to conduct quality assurance testing for provisioned services to ensure they meet specified standards.

Compliance and Security:
Awareness of compliance requirements and security standards related to provisioning activities.

Network Testing and Validation:
Experience in testing and validating provisioned services to ensure correct functionality.

Collaboration Tools:
Familiarity with collaboration tools to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Customer Communication:
Effective communication skills to interact with customers, provide updates, and address inquiries or concerns.

Capacity Planning:
Knowledge of capacity planning principles to allocate network resources efficiently.

Process Optimization:
Ability to identify and implement improvements in service activation processes.

Communication skills – Clear and concise communication with team members, customers, and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.

Team Collaboration – Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across different departments, fostering a positive and efficient work environment.

Attention to Detail – Keen attention to detail in configuration, documentation, and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy.

Collaboration with Sales and Support Teams – Effective collaboration and communication with sales teams to understand customer requirements and with support teams to address technical challenges.

Flexibility – Willingness to adapt to evolving technologies and be open to learning new skills as needed.

Experience:

Prior work experience in the telecommunications industry, particularly in roles related to service provisioning, network operations, or telecommunications services

Hands-on experience in configuring and managing network devices, such as routers, switches, and firewalls, to support the delivery of telecommunication services

Experience with automated provisioning systems and tools used for efficiently activating and managing telecommunications services

Practical experience in troubleshooting telecommunication services, addressing issues related to activation, connectivity, and performance

Experience in maintaining accurate records and documentation of provisioning activities, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and policies

Experience working collaboratively within a team and across different departments, contributing to a positive and efficient work environment
