MIMOS and SensoremTek (ST) forged a strategic partnership on 20 March 2025, aimed at significantly advancing Malaysia’s semiconductor industry. This collaboration focuses on the local production of cutting-edge Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) microphone sensor wafers. The partnership strategically leverages MIMOS’ world-class wafer fabrication capabilities and R&D expertise, combined with SensoremTek’s specialised MEMS Microphone Sensor Technology and its commitment to full-scale technology transfer. This bold step, as highlighted by Dr Saat Shukri Embong, Acting President and Group CEO of MIMOS, is crucial for fostering self-sufficiency in semiconductor manufacturing and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers for these critical MEMS technologies.
Under the agreement, MIMOS will provide essential fabrication and back-end wafer probing services, while SensoremTek will supply advanced MEMS microphone sensor technology and support joint R&D efforts, with both parties exploring future MEMS-based products. This initiative is set to strengthen Malaysia’s position in the global Electrical and Electronics (E&E) value chain, create high-skilled job opportunities, attract foreign direct investment, and ultimately elevate Malaysia as a centre for semiconductor innovation in Asia. The partnership also prioritises the empowerment of local engineers and scientists through practical skills development and intensive training, reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to becoming a key player in the global semiconductor and MEMS sensor ecosystem, and driving national growth and technological excellence.
