MIMOS Quantum Day 2026 Charts Malaysia’s Path to Quantum Advantage

MIMOS Quantum Day (MQD) 2026 brought together government, industry, academia, researchers and technology partners to explore Malaysia’s opportunities in the emerging quantum era. Held on 30 September 2026 at MIMOS Berhad, the event carried the theme ‘Quantum Intelligence: The Next Global Reset’ and examined how quantum computing, quantum-safe security, quantum sensing and Quantum AI could contribute to national security, economic competitiveness and technological resilience.

The event was officiated by YBhg. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, Secretary-General, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), and featured keynote and plenary sessions by YBhg. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab, FASc, Special Advisor on Cybersecurity and Digital Technology to His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Selangor, and YB Senator Dato’ Seri Prof. Dr. Noor Inayah Yaakub, Senator elected by the state of Pulau Pinang.

In his welcoming address, Dr Saat Shukri Embong, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of MIMOS Berhad, highlighted the need for Malaysia to build quantum capabilities early by connecting research, infrastructure, industry applications and talent. He outlined MIMOS’ work across quantum-safe security, quantum computing, quantum sensing and Quantum AI, while emphasising collaboration between government, industry, academia and research communities.

The event also featured the MIMOS Quantum Leadership Awards 2026, which recognised contributions across the financial ecosystem, industry and technology, quantum science and security, and the semiconductor ecosystem. The recipients were YB Senator Dato’ Seri Prof. Dr. Noor Inayah binti Ya’akub, honoured for her contributions to the financial ecosystem; YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir, Chairman of Dagang NeXchange Berhad and SilTerra Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Board Member of CREST, for his contributions to industry and technology; Emeritus Professor Dato’ Dr Mohamed Ridza Wahiddin, FASc, for his role in advancing quantum science and security; and YBhg. Dato’ Dr Mohd Sofi bin Osman, MIMOS Senior Fellow, for strengthening the semiconductor ecosystem.

Beyond the technology showcases and knowledge-sharing sessions, MQD 2026 provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss Malaysia’s quantum technology direction, industry readiness, priority applications and opportunities for collaboration. The Industry Interest Group (IIG) Stakeholders Workshop further connected these discussions to practical industry needs, supporting a coordinated pathway from quantum readiness towards real-world adoption and national advantage.
