Job Purpose
The Assistant Manager, Technology Portfolio Management is responsible for managing and governing the technology portfolio of MIMOS R&D outputs to increase the success rate of industry adoption and commercialisation, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s R&D, Commercialisation & Innovation (R&D&C&I) framework and strategic goals. The role also support laboratories in positioning their solutions with a stronger commercialisation narrative, including developing compelling, market-oriented presentations to secure funding.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Understanding of market requirements in the related technology area — one of the key organisation’s industry focus areas.
- Benchmarking research outputs & intended solutions against the status of advancement of technologies and products in the market for gap analysis and market positioning.
- Support laboratories in positioning their solutions with a stronger commercialisation narrative, including developing compelling, market-oriented presentations to secure funding.
- Capturing requirements of technology solutions by industry/potential recipients for such tech/products and documenting them according to organisation processes & procedures.
- Contributing to the development of a technology roadmap that guides the direction of related R&D in the organisation.
- Managing and maintaining the related technology portfolio of the organisation for strategic planning and sustainability.
- Working closely with researchers, engineers & developer teams in R&D, business development and commercialisation teams, and external partners/collaborators and industry players to ensure alignment of technology development with market needs.
Accountability
- Technology Portfolio Management: Identifying/matching market-technology requirements for assigned R&D projects based on market potential & strategic fit; developing and maintaining comprehensive technology portfolio documentation and tracking development/performance; conducting regular portfolio reviews to assess portfolio health and align with the business and commercialisation plan.
- Technology Commercialisation: Supporting the business development team in engagement activities to identify potential commercialisation opportunities for R&D outputs; coordinating R&D outputs to meet agreed customer requirements (technical/readiness/timeline) for transfer/commercialisation, and where a technology recipient exists, assisting in documenting customer requirements and coordinating the approval process.
- Market Analysis and Competitive Intelligence: Reviewing verifiable market analysis/requirements and competitive landscapes for assigned R&D projects to assess the organisation’s competitive position, and developing market requirement documents; keeping industry data and regulatory changes affecting the technology portfolio up to date.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Participating in relevant platforms with R&D and business development teams to ensure alignment; building networks with external partners such as industry experts, investors, and government agencies to ease transfer of R&D technologies to market; acting as PIC for the organisation’s product portfolios and source of information for internal and external communications.
- Portfolio Data Management: Maintaining respective projects’ technology portfolio data and progress/status updates for technology lifecycle monitoring.
Qualification
- Possess Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Science, Marketing/Business, or Technology Management
Professional Qualification
- Additional certifications in technology management, innovation management, or strategic partnership management would be beneficial.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 5–10 years in R&D, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Sales/Marketing, or Software Development and Computing.
Technical Skills
- Strategic planning skill, with the ability to contribute to drafting the technology portfolio map, prioritisation, and strategic plans to guide research proposals.
- Technical and engineering understanding in ICT (software, computing, communication technology) for technical writing related to projects, requirement documentation, and proposal materials.
- Strong understanding of market dynamics, competitive analysis, and emerging technologies in the ICT or E&E sectors and related fields.
- Knowledge of product lifecycle management processes, including ideation, development, commercialisation, and end-of-life management.
- Good to excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritise initiatives, manage internal and external stakeholders, and drive cross-functional teams towards common goals.

- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and drive consensus.
