Assistant Manager, Technology Commercialisation

Job Purpose

The Assistant Manager, Technology Commercialisation is responsible for driving the commercialisation of MIMOS’ R&D outputs by proactively engaging industry players, promoting laboratory-developed technologies, and converting innovation assets into market-ready solutions. The role focuses on crafting compelling value propositions and “selling” technologies, capabilities, and shared assets (e.g. facilities, talent, platforms) to accelerate industry uptake, partnerships, and revenue generation.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify, engage, and build relationships with industry partners, investors, and ecosystem players to promote MIMOS technologies.
  • Actively market and position R&D outputs for commercialisation, including licensing, collaboration, and solution adoption.
  • Translate technical solutions into clear, compelling commercial value propositions tailored to industry needs.
  • Develop and deliver high-impact presentations, pitches, and proposals with strong commercialisation narratives.
  • Work closely with laboratory teams to refine product-market fit, pricing models, and commercialisation strategies.
  • Package and promote non-technology assets such as shared facilities, testbeds, and technical expertise as monetisable offerings.
  • Support deal-making processes including partnership structuring, proposal development, and negotiation support.
  • Gather market intelligence and provide feedback to labs to align R&D outputs with industry demand.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with the R&D, Commercialisation & Innovation (R&D&C&I) strategy.
  • Oversee and track commercialisation pipelines and performance outcomes, while delivering on ad hoc initiatives and assignments as required.

  • Achievement of commercialisation targets (e.g. partnerships, revenue, licensing deals).
  • Number and quality of industry engagements and conversions.
  • Effectiveness of technology positioning and adoption rate.
  • Contribution to portfolio value realisation.
  • Quality and impact of pitches, proposals, and presentations.
  • Strength of industry network and stakeholder relationships.

Qualification

  • Possess Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Science, Marketing/Business, or Sales.

Professional Qualification

  • Relevant commercialisation or sales certifications preferred.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5–10 years in R&D, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Sales/Marketing, or Technology Commercialisation.

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of technology commercialisation models (licensing, spin-offs, joint development).
  • Ability to interpret and translate R&D technologies into business value propositions.
  • Basic knowledge of emerging technologies (AI, IoT, digital platforms, etc.), productisation and go-to-market strategies.
  • Familiarity with market analysis, competitive positioning, and financial concepts (ROI, pricing, cost structures).
  • Experience with proposal writing and pitch deck development.
  • Exposure to innovation ecosystems, industry trends, and commercialisation pathways.

Soft Skills

  • Strong sales and influencing skills with the ability to engage senior industry stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling ability, especially simplifying complex technologies.
  • Highly creative and entrepreneurial mindset in positioning and “selling” ideas.
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills.
  • Results-driven with strong commercial acumen.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with technical and business teams.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a fast-moving innovation environment.

Additional Preferences

  • Experience in technology transfer, business development, or innovation commercialisation.
  • Existing network with industry players, investors, or government agencies.
  • Exposure to grant funding, pitching, or the startup ecosystem.
  • Experience in R&D environments or technology organisations.
  • Knowledge of IP management and commercialisation frameworks is an advantage.
