Regional Collaboration Takes AI Safety from Principles to Practice

MIMOS hosted an authoritative Expert Roundtable on AI Governance on 30 June 2026, gathering prominent Industry Interest Group (IIG) Fellows, subject matter experts, and strategic stakeholders. The high-level convening served as an active working platform to address the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence and the urgent requirement for robust, standardised governance frameworks across Southeast Asia.

During the session, delegates closely reviewed UNESCO’s AI Readiness Assessment Method (RAM), examining how international benchmarks can effectively guide domestic policy and institutional preparedness. Participants dissected the practical implications of ethical AI adoption, evaluating how governance models must adapt to balance fast-paced technological innovation with public safety, data integrity, and ethical oversight.

A major focus of the discussion centred on detailing the operational roadmap for the ASEAN AI Safety Network (ASEAN AI Safe). Experts deliberated on concrete mechanisms to establish shared safety standards, risk assessment protocols, and joint technical frameworks needed to mitigate systemic vulnerabilities across member states.

By aligning international methodology with regional priorities, the roundtable highlighted MIMOS’ strategic role in shaping responsible technology policy. The event concluded with a reinforced commitment to cross-border collaboration, establishing vital connective tissue between policy formulation, technical safety, and regional digital trust across the ASEAN ecosystem.
